Preparations are well under way for the 2017 IFEAT Conference to be held in Athens, Greece at the InterContinental Athenaeum Hotel from 24th to 28th September. I look forward to welcoming members and their partners to this beautiful, historical city with strong global links deriving from its shipping, finance, commerce, arts, culture and tourism sectors. This year, it will be a celebratory conference, as we mark 40 years since IFEAT’s inception in Kyoto in 1977; the theme will be “Celebrating 40 years of IFEAT”. There is much to celebrate, as our industry has flourished and IFEAT activities continue to expand. As part of the celebrations we shall be looking at “fragrances in antiquity”. The glorious era of Ancient Athens stands roughly halfway in the course of the 40 centuries of documented perfumery. With the unique smells of Greek origin such as labdanum or mastic, our conference will pay special tribute to the on-going discoveries around the fascinating richness of these ancient scents. By all counts, the 2016 IFEAT Conference in Dubai broke all records with 1 295 participants (1 232 Delegates and 63 Accompanying Persons) from 54 different nations! This is an unprecedented attendance since IFEAT’s inception 39 years ago and a 16% increase over the previous record in Rome (2014). The great success of the Conference arose from the efforts of many people. In particular, I would like to thank my colleagues on the IFEAT Dubai Conference Committee for the tireless dedication shown in organising this conference. I would like to thank all those who have continued to support the IFEAT Conferences with their attendance, advertisements of coffee breaks, lunches and evening events. Dear Friends, Marhaba fi Dubai! I am very pleased and honoured to welcome you to Dubai for the 2016 IFEAT Conference. This year’s conference title – “The Middle East: Challenges at the historical crossroads of the F&F industry” – proved to be quite fitting for the city of superlatives: registrations had exceeded 1200 by 1st September. This makes it by far our largest conference ever, and is a sign that our industry is growing. Bookings so far for the 2016 IFEAT Conference, to be held in Dubai in September, are going extremely well. By 27th June we had received around 850 registrations. We are delighted to be welcoming such an important and representative group of people from the essential oils and aroma chemicals trade and related industries. I look forward to meeting delegates at the Welcome Reception, to be held at the Jumeirah Madinat Fort Island at 18.30 on Sunday 25th September. The 2016 IFEAT Conference will be held in Dubai, one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in the world. Firmly established as a leading commercial, tourism and trade hub, Dubai offers a perfect setting for IFEAT’s prestigious annual gathering, and I look forward to welcoming you here in September. Dubai is known as the “City of Superlatives”; among many records it is home to the tallest building, the largest shopping mall and the most luxurious hotel in the world. While this iconic metropolis is now unrecognisable from its 19th century origins as a small fishing and pearling village, its heritage rooted in the Islamic traditions of Arabia remains a vital and attractive aspect of the city. The sights, sounds and scents of Sri Lanka provided an unforgettable backdrop for the 2015 IFEAT Annual Conference held in Colombo. A total of 1,029 delegates, along with 76 accompanying persons, enjoyed the hospitality of this beautiful island from 27th September to 1st October. All the principal companies from the world’s F & F industry were represented, with 49 different nationalities present. Delegates were provided with topical and educational presentations, market updates, two workshops, a number of field trips alongside useful discussions, networking facilities and first class entertainment throughout the week. Dear Member, I am very happy to welcome all delegates, speakers and accompanying persons to the beautiful and exciting city of San Francisco for the 2013 IFEAT Conference. “Sustainable Growth” is the theme of the Conference and if it was a target for the Conference Organising Committee, this has indeed been achieved.
